Key players: Doug Edert, junior
Potential emerging stars: Matt Zona, sophomore
Zachary Freemantle, sophomore
Team analysis: With coach Billy Armstrong at the helm, Bergen Catholic took another step forward in 2017.
Last year Don Bosco’s Herasme hit a tiebreaking free throw with 3.4 seconds left that propelled Don Bosco Prep to a thrilling 60-59 victory. This team will use that as motivation to play at a high level this year and seek revenge. While this team won’t have the star power it has had in recent years, (Gabe Stefanini and Taj Benning. were both Division One players who are recent graduates) this team has learned by their examples and will continue to play the style of basketball that has allowed to perform at a high level. Junior Doug Edert will lead the way this year for Bergen Catholic. Edert is a lethal shooter who has the potential to score points in bunches.
Solid coaching, strong talent and a competitive schedule will put Bergen Catholic in position to make some noise this year when it matters most.
Stat to know: Bergen Catholic went to the sectional final in 2017.
