Why they’re on the list: The Patrick School may have graduated four seniors to division one programs, but they are still loaded. One of the main reasons TPS is one of the favorites to repeat as the Tournament of Champions winner is Markquis Nowell.
While many players struggle when transferring to a new program, Nowell has all the tools to hit the ground running. Offensively, Nowell has the potential to be one of the most prolific scorers in the state. Aptly titled “Mr. New York City” due to his ability to embrace and dominate tough games, Marquis is cool as a cucumber with the ball in his hands. The combination of his savvy ball handling and lighting quick release make him a terror in pick and roll situations. He also is one of the best shooters in the state. Nowell has endless range and can get hot in a hurry. Defensively he will embrace the nightly challenge of guarding the team's best ball handler with pride. Look for The Patrick School to refine his technique and take his on ball defense to another level this year.
If Nowell buys into The Patrick School way of doing things on both sides of the floor, this will be an amazing experience for him as a basketball player. TPS has tremendous depth at all positions. Their ability to keep teams honest across the board means plenty of easy shots in transition and off of penetrate and kick situations. Be on the lookout for some big shooting nights from Nowell is 2018.
