The Floor General: Jahsyni Knight

January 12, 2018

Floor general - An individual with the ability to make great decisions on the fly with the basketball in their hands. They often dictate the flow of the game on both sides of the floor.

There are two type of point guards you meet in this world. One is a distributor. They swing the ball around the floor and make the right plays at the right time. The other is a floor general, or playmaker. Floor generals not only run the plays, but they know how to bend the offense and make plays that no one else can see. The general is always a step ahead of the player guarding them mentally. Defensively, the floor general controls the game. They set the tone. They are fearless and unpredictable.

Jahsyni Knight is the definition of a floor general.

Q&A: Jake Betlow

January 9, 2018

The last three years have been full of unique and fun experiences for Jake Betlow. The crafty point guard has suited up for Gil St. Bernard’s, Montverde and now St. Benedict's Prep. While many would be overwhelmed playing in numerous systems in their high school career, Jake has performed at a high level each time out. His freshman year he took New Jersey by storm as he was selected by NJ.Com as the “Freshman Of The Year.”

Upon sitting down with Jake, it was obvious why he has been able to make a seamless transition within each program. For starters he's a student of the game. He's well spoken, but not overbearing. It’s clear he’s a natural born leader that knows how to handle a room. On the court, he’s a smooth operator. While many are consumed by pressure moments in a game, Betlow is a kid who embraces high octane situations. He keeps the offense clicking and moving at the right pace.

Recently we linked with Betlow at the Scholarship Festival to discuss playing for Montverde, what he’s looking for from a college program, why he thinks his new school St. Benedict’s Prep can go all the way and more.

Q&A: Myles Thompson

January 8, 2018

Myles Thompson is a special kid. When you first meet him and talk to him, you can tell he's a coaches dream. Thompson is very approachable and has great manners. On the court, for his opponets at least, he's a terror. Thompson is super aggressive on the glass and attacks the rim with reckless abandon.

Thompson is a kid with layers, which is okay. The good thing about him is he knows when to turn the aggression on and when to turn it off. That level of toughness on the floor is a requirement to play at Camden. "We play a rugged, hard, intense style of basketball," said Thompson.  "We don’t play the score. We don’t play soft. We don’t cry about calls on the court. We play through everything. That’s Camden basketball."

Recently we sat down with Myles to discuss expanding his game to the wing, signing to St. Francis (PA), what Camden Basketball is all about and more.

Q&A: Abbey Lawrence

January 5, 2018

As an opposing coach, Abbey Lawrence a nightmare to plan for. Offensively, she moves at her own pace. She glides up the floor and gets to all spots on the floor with ease. Defensively, she’s locked in at all times. She’s always talking and works hard to stay in front of her opponent. Abbey does the positive things that don’t show up in the box score. To opponents, she’s a nightmare to deal with. To her coach and teammates at Newark Tech, Abbey is a pleasant dream to be apart of.

Earlier last week TheDribbleDrop sat down with Lawrence to discuss her play on the AAU circuit, breaking the 1,000 point mark, why defense is the main priority at Newark Tech and more.
