Girls Top Ten: #7 St.Rose

November 15, 2017

By Christian Mordi / @thedribbledrop on IG

Team: St. Rose

Ranking:  7

Record Last season:  26-4, 16-0 in conference play

Key players:  Lucy Thomas, senior

Potential emerging stars:  Mikayla Markham, senior, Elizabeth Marsicano, senior

Team analysis:  St. Rose may have lost their leader in coach Joe Whalen (via resignation,) but there is still plenty of excitement surrounding this team.

The dynamic duo of Lucy Thomas and Mikayla Markham are back and ready to dominate night in and night out. This team takes great pride in playing a rigorous regular season schedule. As a result, they are battle tested and ready for big games down the stretch. Be on the lookout for some big scoring totals in division play this year by Markham. She has the talent and motor to expose some shaky lineups she may face in Shore B division games.  If their role players step up nicely,  Belmar Bombers will be in position to make some noise near T.O.C. time.

Stat to know: The St. Rose girls basketball program was seeking a new leader after the departure of longtime coach Joe Whalen. That search has ended as the Purple Roses have announced that  Mary Beth Chambers, a member of St. Rose’s Class of 1979, was appointed the new head varsity girls basketball coach.
