Player: Paul Mulcahy
Team: Gil St. Bernards
Stats: 9 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists per game.
What to expect: While all the hype entering the season was for Jake Betlow, “Do-It-All-Paul” Mulcahy was also one of the top freshmen in the state. The NJ Playa made a seamless transition to varsity ball and is ready to become a dominant force this year.
In regards to skills, Paul has one of the most complete skill sets for a sophomore in the state. Paul combines his smooth jumper and amazing footwork in the paint to keep opponents on their heels. One thing that flies under the radar is his athleticism. Paul is surprisingly quick and beats many defenders to the rim due to a strong first step.
Another thing in Mulcahy’s favor is the offensive system. Coach Sina is one of the best coaches in the state, and does a great job building his offensive system around his players. Paul is on his way to mastering this intricate offensive scheme, which leaves his opponents overwhelmed on most nights. With the lost of Betlow to Montverde, Paul is primed to have a high usage rate and put up monster numbers this year.
If everything falls into place, Paul will be the star of a top 10 team in the state. An appearance on the All Non-Public list is surely on the way.
Stat to know: Last season, Paul played amazing in one of the best late regular season games last year versus Seton Hall Prep. Gil might have lost to Seton Hall Prep in the last seconds due to a foul call, but Paul was on fire, dropping 17 points in the contest.
