Team: Teaneck
Ranking: 5
Record Last season: 28-5, 10-0 in conference play. Group 3 champions.
Key players: Leondre Washington, senior;Ja'Quaye James, junior; Jawaun Daniels, senior
Potential emerging stars: Adrian Baucom, senior
Team analysis: Despite the loss of 1,000 point scorer Leondre Washington in the off-season to Roselle Catholic, Teaneck made a major run in 2016 as they won the Group 3 championship. Athletic forward Jawaun Daniels burst onto the scene, nabbing All-Group 3 honors as a junior. ‘
The stars are back, but Teaneck has lost a nice bit of depth. Their aggressive pressing style of play demands depth. Only time will tell if the new role players can hold their weight, which will allow them to maintain their style of play.
Even with the loss of some key role players, Group 3 as a whole has lost a lot of talent, which should allow Teaneck to make a deep run again this year. With Leondre Washington back at the helm, this team could make a legit push at a TOC chip.
Stat to know: Ja'Quaye James scored over 1,000 points in his first two years of varsity basketball. If he keeps at this pace, he will log close to 2,500 points in his career.
With 573 points last year, Jawaun Daniels is also on pace to break 1,000 points at Teaneck in 2017.
