Zakai Zeigler, a point guard in the class of 2022 has set his decision for Friday, August 27, at 4:00 p.m. He will choose between Tennessee, Minnesota, Boston College, and Wichita State. The announcement will come via his Instagram page, @realzakaiz.
Zeigler attended Immaculate Conception High School in Montclair, and was initially in the class of 2021, but he announced he will take a post grad year at Our Savior Lutheran in the Bronx and join the 2022 class. However, there is a possibility he will switch back to ’21.
“Yes, there is potential,” Zeigler said about reclassifying back to 2021. “Me, my family, and coaches have spoken about it and some of the schools are interested in it too.”
The 5’10” guard appeared in all 15 of Immaculate’s games in the 2021 season, where he led the Lions in scoring with just over 20 points per game. He also dished out 4.6 assists per contest.
Not only did Zeigler prove to be talented in the high school season, but he put his skills on display in the EYBL AAU Circuit, especially at Peach Jam.
In a single game against eventual champion Team Final, Zeigler dropped 23 points, on 8/11 from the field, and 7/8 from three point range. He also had 10 assists with no turnovers, along with three steals. This outing gave Zeigler The Season Ticket’s Best Performance Award of the tournament.
“Peach Jam was amazing. It was the best and highest level tournament I’ve ever played in,” Zeigler said. “I feel like I matched up with the so called better or high ranked guards very well. I showed everyone why I should be a top guard in the country.”
With this performance, Zeigler boosted his stock drastically and earned himself many high major offers.
“It’s amazing and a great feeling. Going from no one really knowing me and having one low division one offer to having double digit offers is just a blessing,” he said. “Getting offers from ACC, SEC, and Big Ten schools is a blessing, and I can’t put it any other way. I used to watch these teams play on TV when I was younger and now they want me to play for them.”
