Headband Highlights: The Journey & College Commitment Of Paul Mulcahy

May 16, 2018

My journey at Gil St. Bernards has been amazing. I met coach Sina in the 7th grade while playing for his AAU team. I decided to come over to Gil in the 8th grade and see if I could handle the commute. The adjustment was one of the hardest parts of my experience, but it was worth it. Gil as a whole has given me opportunities I probably wouldn’t have ever had if I had decided to go to another place. I’m extremely grateful to have played here. Gil has changed my life.

My freshman year I started with Shaq, Adam Mitola who is at George Washington, Connor Klementowicz who is at Hofstra and Jake Betlow. I really found my way as the season progressed and I found myself playing the best in the games that mattered the most.

I started my High School career playing for the Tim Thomas Playaz. I played 15u there and coach helped me a lot. I’m cool with all the coaches and it’s truly a family. I still have a group chat with a collection of players on that 15u team. We may not play together now, but some of those guys are really some of my best friends. My freshman year of AAU was a great experience. We won a couple tournaments. We came in 3rd at Peach Jam at the buzzer to a team that won it all.

Diary: The Hoop Group Providence Jam Fest With Amare Marshall

May 14, 2018

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Nothing is better than the Spring Live Period!

Scouts, fans and college coaches pack gyms to catch the next great star. There are countless great events to attend, but none are more powerful and popular than the Under Armour Association, The Adidas Gauntlet, the Nike EYBL and The Hoop Group.

As media and fans we have our viewpoint on the event, but nothing is more authentic and pure than the view of the athlete. It's only right that we hear things from the players themselves and view things through their eyes. We have selected a player on the girls and boys side each session to do a mini diary discussing their journey that weekend.

The next one will be from a player named Amare Marshall. The diaper dandy plays on the 16u EYBL team for The Tim Thomas Playaz.

Below is the diary entry by Amare Marshall at the Providence Jam Fest, presented by The Hoop Group. -as told to Christian Mordi @thedribbledrop

Q+A: Mya Bembry

May 8, 2018

Some of the best things in life aren’t forced. They are all natural.

Watching Mya Bembry on the court is a joy. While others lumber as they run the floor, she glides from spot to spot. When the ball touches her hands, she lights up. Many young players look mechanical when letting loose a basketball move. Mya is at her best orchestrating on the fly, weaving move combinations seamlessly from one to the next. Bembry is a smooth operator.

Recently we sat down sat down with Mya to discuss playing for iExcel, winning the first sectional title for West Orange, her best selling point to college coaches and more. -Christian Mordi @thedribbledrop

The next one will be a player from the Under Armour Association on the New Heights team named Lester Quinones.

Upon watching him play, it’s easy to see why scouts are locked in.The sensational shooter is knocked down 3 three pointers made per game this year. The Gray Bee also knocked down 4 or more three pointers in a game five times this year.  The sensational guard has taken great strides in his ball handling and has developed into a lethal scorer who can dominate a game at all three levels.
