Gameday Playlist Vibes: Khalif Battle

February 12, 2018

For many, music is a push factor against the demons of anxiety and nervousness before a competition. For others, a pre-game playlist is a "Secret sauce" used to stir up and release whatever is channeled within them in an effort to lead their team to victory.

Today we begin a new series titled "Gameday Playlist Vibes," which feature must-play pre-game songs from rising basketball stars in New Jersey. Next up is Trenton Catholic guard Khalif Battle. The STRAPPED sophomore is known for getting hot fast on the court, averaging 19 points per game this year. Battle also has 12 games this year that he's hit three 3 pointers made in a game or more. Enjoy the jams from the junior guard below.

Thoughts before the game: The mindset is to prove everyone wrong. My music is mixed from rappers trying to be great, to Jay-Z, who’s the goat. I love the swag that he comes with.. he has the swagger I want.

On the bus rides for away games:  My bus ride games are to listen old school calm songs to relax and rest up, but when I’m getting dressed it’s strictly music to get me prepared for war.

Next up is Montclair High guard Charles Murphy. The sensational shooter is knocking down 3 three pointers made per game thus far.

Q+A: Sarah Karpell

February 7, 2018

A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way.

Sarah Karpell is a leader. The floor general leads by example every game with via her workmanlike approach to the game. No matter the situation, Sarah plays under control offensively. Defensively, she’s relentless. She smothers her opponent throughout the game. You can tell she takes that side of the floor serious and personal.

Like a virus, her approach to the game infected her teammates in the best way possible. They defend at an elite level across the board. The offense runs like a 1972 Gran Torino. They are smooth. It all starts at point at St. John’s Vianney.

Recently we sat down with Karpell to discuss what makes St. John Vianney click, her commitment to Fordham, playing alongside Tori Hyduke in the spring and more. - By Christian Mordi / @thedribbledrop
